Cleaning with Kids-School’s Out

The kids are almost out of school and that means they’re about to be spending a lot more time at home…which also means more dust, dirt and crumbs. We’ve put together a few cleaning tips that will help you whip the house back in shape after the kids start going stir crazy.

When the Kids Get Too Artistic…

If you’ve got a couple of creative kiddos there’s a chance you might look down at the coffee table to see that their masterpieces have left the paper. Now your coffee cup sits on top of self portrait beautifully drawn out in vibrant crayon. And while the new art adds a fun pop of color to the living room, it’s not something you want friends seeing when they come over for wine night. Turns out getting rid of those coloring marks on the wood is actually pretty easy. Here’s what you need:
1. Toothpaste
2. Little bit of elbow grease
Toothpaste is like a magic eraser when it comes to wood stains, an easy fix for a common problem.

Summer Heat Brings Stinky Feet…
With summer comes outdoor play and sweaty stinky feet! No one wants to live in a home that has a smelly cloud hanging around from overused sneakers, so take care of the problem right when the kids slip their feet out. All you need for this trick is baking soda (great for absorbing odors). Tap a little into each shoe and let it do the work. The icky smell will be gone in no time, just make sure you give the shoes a little shake outside or over the trash before they’re worn again.

And the Artwork Continues…

Art belongs on walls, but we recommend making sure they’re on a canvas first! Sometimes kids get carried away and who can blame them for wanting to put their art on display for all to see? When your little Picasso gets carried away and takes their marker to the newly painted wall don’t freak out, we’re here to help! Try scrubbing lightly with a damp sponge sprinkled in baking soda, this combination should help in making those unwanted colors disappear.

Keep the Mud Outside…

Long summer days mean more time spent outside, so when the summer showers hit prepare for the mud! We know it can be tempting to try and wipe off muddy boots but give it some time and let it dry. Dry dirt is much easier to remove then gluey mud. Keep the shoes close to the back door that way you can stomp them out to chip away at the dirt. If you’ve still got some messy spots that just don’t want to budge take a bit of water and dish soap to them. Clean as new!
