Washing the Dishwasher
One of the favorite quotes comes from a Focus on the Family radio broadcast where a caller said “Why clean the shower, when you take a shower you use soap and water, you are just going to do the same thing when you clean it! It is a self cleaning system.” Of course, without cleaning that shower, we all know that our friend soap scum will build up.
So why clean a dishwasher? Isn’t it a self cleaning system? The problem comes from the build up after years of cleaning dishes. Your dishwasher water can turn brown or murky and leave spots on your dishes. You keep adding rinse aid but the dishes always look spotted.
Here is an easy way to clean your dishwasher. First take out the bottom rack, and feel around the bottom of the dishwasher. Large food chunks can get stuck on the bottom, so remove those. You can then put the bottom rack back. Next, fill about 1 cup of vinegar in a large measuring cup and set it on the top rack. Make sure that the cup of vinegar is the only item in the dishwasher. Now run a full cycle on the dish washer (no detergent). You will be surprised how the sides of the dishwasher will become! Brown walls will be whiter and your dishes will thank you. Volla, easy and simple!
